Changing Your Buick, GMC Tires

Whether your TPMS is telling you that you have a flat, or you’re adding off-road tires to your adventure vehicle, learning to change tires is easy! You’ll need a jack, lug wrench, spare tire or new tire(s), and your owner’s manual. From there, follow these steps to change a tire:

  1. If you’re on the side of the road, find a safe place to pull over. Turn on your hazard lights.
  2. Apply the parking brake, and put wheel wedges behind the tires.
  3. Remove the hubcap, and loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Raise your vehicle with your jack.
  5. Remove the current tire, and mount the replacement or spare.
  6. Tighten the lug nuts, and lower your vehicle back to the ground.

How Often to Change Your Car Tires

Tire care can be tricky since there’s really no one-size-fits-all approach. Since the condition of your tires depends on how often you drive, where you drive, the terrain you encounter, your drivetrain, and maintenance, it’s hard to say exactly when you need to change your tires. However, you’ll want to check the tire pressure and tread depth on a monthly basis to ensure your tires are in good shape. If you care for your tires regularly, you should reach the recommended mileage from the tire manufacturer. If you’re unsure when you should have your tires changed, visit us in Fremont for an inspection!
