What Is Car Detailing?

Wiping Down Car Dash with Cleaning Cloth

Oftentimes, you’ll hear the term “car wash” and “car detailing” used interchangeably but there is certainly a difference. A car wash is when you simply wash your vehicle inside and out on the surface level. With a car wash, you may use soap and other cleaning agents on the interior and exterior so that it’s nice and clean for your Omaha drives.

So, what is car detailing then? Car detailing is when you take things one step further than a car wash. Car detailing often involves paint correction, dent repairs, restoring interior surfaces to like-new condition, and more. If you want your vehicle to look as though it just left our showroom, you’ll want to have your vehicle detailed. What You Need To Detail Your Vehicle

We recommend you visit our body shop and service center if you’re looking to have your vehicle detailed. However, if you’re interested in doing it in your own Lincoln home, there are a few things you should be aware of.

If you’re not sure what you’re doing, detailing your vehicle could lead to irreparable damage so we recommend you do so with some research and caution. With that out of the way, if you’ve done your research and you’re ready to enhance your vehicle’s appearance, here’s what you’ll need to detail your vehicle:

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Canned air
  • Automotive carpet cleaner
  • Automotive stain remover
  • Window cleaner
  • Automotive interior cleaner and conditioner
  • Small brushes
  • Wash mitts
  • Microfiber towels

How To Detail a Car Interior & Exterior

Now that we’ve answered, “What is car detailing?” you’re probably wondering what you can do to detail your interior and exterior. As we’ve mentioned, detailing your vehicle involves cleaning and restoring to the next level. There are many different things to consider on when you’re detailing your Columbus daily driver but here are some of the areas we’d recommend you focus on when detailing your ride:

Interior

  • Seating Upholstery: Start by vacuuming your seats. If you’ve got cloth seats, use a stain remover after you’ve vacuumed your vehicle. If you have vinyl or leather seats, we recommend using an automotive leather and vinyl seat cleaner and conditioner.
  • Steering Wheel: Your steering wheel has likely accumulated dirt and debris as you use it. Use an automotive cleaner to clean your steering wheel and apply a protectant after cleaning.
  • Carpeting: If your interior has carpeting, vacuum the carpets first and then utilize a stain remover in conjunction with a brush to further clean the carpeting.
  • Dashboard & Doors: Your dashboard and doors should be wiped down first with an automotive cleaning solution. Then, use your brushes to start agitating the dirt and debris built up and wipe everything down once more until completely dry.
  • Windows: Use a window-cleaning solution and a microfiber towel to avoid streaks.

Exterior

  • Wash: Start by washing your vehicle as you normally would. It’s best to use an automotive exterior soap that’ll remove road dirt and grime without stripping off your vehicle’s protectant. Use multiple clean microfiber towels to dry the exterior.
  • Wheels: There are many wheel-specific cleaners available that are designed to remove caked-on brake dust on your wheels. You’ll often have to spray down your wheels and use a wheel brush to ensure your wheels look like new.
  • Protectant: After your car has been washed, use a protectant or wax of some sort to ensure your vehicle’s exterior stays in excellent condition. It’s often recommended to repair any paint chips or dents before you apply a protective coating on your vehicle.
